Our winter issue featured an inordinate number of felines. Count 'em, get it right, and you could win a Venus Zine swag bag!

Why are there so many kitties in our winter 2010 issue? It all started with a few coincidences: Two readers sent us snapshots of their cats posing with Venus Zine, right on the heels of a photo shoot we did for the winter issue with Best Coast … and a bunch of kittens. The cover of the Cali band’s first full-length, Crazy For You, stars frontwoman Bethany Cosentino’s cute orange cat, Snacks. Taking inspiration from that album art, we borrowed 12 kittens from Tree House Humane Society and asked the band to pose with them. Yes, we all had a blast—and got in some quality cuddle time. So we’d like to extend a huge thanks to Tree House, the largest cageless, no-kill shelter for injured, sick, and abandoned cats in the Chicago area.
