Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!, a loose collective of musicians, orbits around leader Neil Fridd. Fridd’s college-era rock opera spawned TPDR!’s creation, and now he tours the country donning a suit festooned with stuffed animals during the band’s live show. Although TPDR! released an EP, We’re Humans BE AWESOME! in 2008, the band’s fan base mushroomed thanks to its concerts, free-for-all happenings that TPDR! hopes fans will find unforgettable.

Even though it’s a studio record, ...Have the Best Day of Your Life! is a soundtrack that documents TPDR! as performers, and it isn’t hard to think up an accompanying visual for each of the songs. The chorus of “In Your Face Suckiness (Our Blood Is Rainbows),” “We’re gonna make it through all the shit,” would be perfect for a bizzaro world episode of Glee, where neon stage make up is just important as flawless choreography and perfect smiles. Performance is also implicit at the end of “Grouphug!” when the chorus of band members chant, “Drama’s a word that’s supposed to be about theater.”

Time will tell if TPDR! can endure after the punch line of their live show wears thin. Hopefully they are more than just a well-staged joke, but for now Fridd deftly conceals his plans to keep writing under the layers of feathers and glue as on “Snakebites!” where he sings, “I am constantly improving / Writing songs my voice is soothing / I will sing them all to you.” Let’s hope Fridd makes good on this promise.
