Not Yet (Drag City)

Not Yet is Monotonix’s third release at Drag City. Since appearing on the US scene in 2008 with it’s debut EP, following it with full length Where Were You When It Happened in 2009, the Tel Aviv-based rock trio has arguably become even known it’s half-naked, half-insane, fully-physical stage antics even more than it is for it’s records.
The intensity of Monotonix’s live show is not lost in its recordings, but from the first notes of Not Yet, it is obvious that the band is still better heard in a hot, packed venue than through one’s headphones.. Frontman Ami Shalev’s vocals are a fast mixture of spoken screaming and punk chanting, backed by Haggai Fershtman’s ferocious drums and Yonatan Gat’s guitar at a heart-blasting, cardiac arrest paces, with the potential to elicit strong desires in its listeners to whip out an air guitar or bang on random items while jumping around. David Lee Roth doesn’t have shit Monotonix.
While all songs are definitive rock and roll, there is still a spectrum from the dark and sinister, such as “Late Night” to energizing acid rock anthems like “Fun Fun Fun.” With most of the songs lasting less than three minutes, Not Yet is a quick riot, bringing chaos wherever it is heard.
