Fashionista of the Week: 10/15/10

This Western Illinois University student proves it's all about the oxford

I’ve been through quite a few shopping phases in my life: purses, dresss, earrings. But, there’s one accessory addiction I’ve never quite been able to shake: shoes. I love shoes. Call me the Carrie Bradshaw of the Midwest. I drool at the smell of quality leather. Killer stilettos give me goose bumps. So needless to say, as I was walking home from class and spotted these wedge oxfords, I nearly melted.

This lady's beige wedge lace-ups remind me of bowling shoes, in a good way—I fell in love with the orange trim and laces. It gives the typically formal oxford a slightly more casual, even sporty, feel. A nautical striped long-sleeve tee and a pair of boot cut jeans finishes her casual-yet-sassy daytime outfit. But as I said, her sexy shoes could really be paired with any outfit.

The great thing about basic oxfords is their versatility. Try layering socks and leggings under shorts for an edgier look or turn a floral dress into nighttime fare with a pair of heeled oxfords and tights when the weather gets chilly. They can also dress up a pair of leggings and, as this Fashionista proves, they really compliment a great pair of jeans. Found in all shapes, sizes, and colors now, you’re bound to find a pair you love. Some of my favorite oxford flats are these laceless wing-tips from Steve Madden (above, left $69.95). Aside from the traditional flats, oxfords can be found in bootie form, like these Dolce Vitas (above, right $62); heels like these from Yes Style; and wedges like Tory Burch's Victor. And remember: Anything goes with these versatile kicks!
