I made this Sham-delier to give my balcony a little indoor/outdoor ooh la la. It was inspired in part by Philippe Starck’s Ghost Chairs. I love the whole classic shape and modern material juxtaposition.
SKILL LEVEL: Sophomore
TOTAL COST: less than $10
SUPPLIES:
• 2 flexible plastic chopping boards
• 2 flameless tea lights
• Some decorative scrapbooking chain
• The PDF template or you could try your own design.
TOOLS:
• Craft Knife
• Pencil
• Hole punch
• Needle nose pliers
GET TO IT!
1. Once you’ve got your template, pop the chopping board over it. Then, trace your design onto it in pencil.
2. Carefully cut around your design to create the basic shape of the sham-delier. Repeat Step 1.
3. Trace then cut out two of the pieces which then become the “candle holders.” Then, cut out three of the “crystals.”
4. Using a hole punch or a sharp craft knife, poke holes into the bottom of one of your main body pieces, both side pieces, and at the top of all three of your “crystals.” Using needle nose pliers, attach your “crystals” with a small length chain.
5. Pop some chain through the top two holes of the main body pieces. This is the hanging chain.
6. Slide the side pieces into the slots; pop your flameless tealights into the ‘holders’ you have created.
