Netherlands-based fashion student and blogger Iris Gravemaker of Fashion Zen plays the style game by her own rules. "I would describe my look as Audrey Hepburn meets Blondie, mixed with my mood swings," says the 27-year-old.
For fall, Gravemaker styled her own plush black headband. Below is a step-by-step how-to guide so you can make your own headpiece. Read more about Gravemaker's style in the fall 2010 issue of Venus Zine, on newsstands now.
What you'll need
sewing machine
1 yard velvet or velour fabric
black thread
fabric scissors
measure tape
Step 1: Measure your head.

Step 2: Cut out four strips of 2-inch wide fabric to match the length of your head.

Step 3: Sew them together two by two (good sides together). Sew 1/2" in along both edges.

Step 4: Turn them inside out.

Step 5: Put them like this.

Step 6: Sew the ends together.

Et voilá! Your very own handmade headband.
