I’m a recent college grad with loans to pay back and not so great at watching my online spending — which is why I avoided Etsy until October. I needed a Joan Holloway-esque necklace for my Halloween costume and the Owliday Inn had a wide variety to choose from. So, after carefully weighing my choices, I settled on an engraved brass pencil. It arrived quickly and exactly as described, in a cute little hand sewn pouch inside a cute little box with a cute little owl on it. I was smitten and as someone who can only do necklaces — bracelets and rings are uncomfortable, earrings irritate my sensitive ears — I can’t resist browsing the store at least a few times a month now.
Designer Maya Swedowsky makes the majority of her jewelry from vintage pieces she finds around New York City — from clocks and pencils to magnifying glasses, keys, and whistles, meaning most items you buy from the Owliday Inn are completely unique not to mention completely adorable. Swedowsky doesn’t just sell necklaces, though, so whatever your preference you’re bound to find something you love.
