Legend has it that poet Jeremy Sigler started Ponytail as a class project in 2005, choosing five strangers at random to start a band. Although their name may be inspired by a horse’s ass, don’t mistake this Baltimore quartet for a group of novice freshman – their artistic style and dreamy guitar work (enhanced by the unfilled absence of a departed bass player) graduate them at the head of the indie class. Catch their Pitchfork set and see why the Baltimore City Paper named them a “best band” two years in a row.
