A cornucopia of indie designers and online boutiques with fresh, innovative clothing and accessory designs, all lay right at your fingertips at the be-all, end-all of independent fashion sources: Paper-Doll.com. It’s your answer to those long, two o’clock in the morning Google searches that have only led you to sites selling cringe-inducing, crochet coin purses or five-hundred different screen-printed tees.
It originally launched in 1998, and for nine years was Canada’s leading online independent clothing boutique, getting nods from ELLE, Lucky Magazine, Much Music, and more, but in 2008 it returned as one helluva indie fashion guide. Did I mention it has a blog too? These days you’re not a reputable name in fashion without one. Besides featuring up-and-coming designers, they also have a “Featured Photographer” and a “Paper-Doll loves” section, with links to their fave style sites like LOOKBOOK.nu, and a designer database with forty sizzling designers. Even if you don’t have loads of money to buy stuff off the site, like myself, it’s an excellent site for style inspiration.
