K. Tighe loves Histoire de Melody Nelson

This year will see the re-release of highly influential and controversial Francophone musician Serge Gainsbourg’s landmark 1971 concept album Histoire de Melody Nelson.

Thirty-eight years after its initial release, Histoire will be available for the first time in the United States on March 24th. Sexually charged and highly seductive, Histoire paints a picture of forbidden lust between the middle-aged protagonist and his bicycle riding Lolita.

Gainsbourg’s influence on Francophone and Anglophone music is pronounced and evident in the recordings of bands and artists ranging from Air to Beck’s 2002 album Sea Change.

The album is available for pre-order on the Light in the Attic Web site.

K. Tighe is the Editor-in-Chief at Venus Zine.
