The art world and the fight for social change collide at the nexus of Ctrl+Alt+Shift., a Web site that uses film, photography, illustrations, and stories as vehicles for bringing your attention to important global issues. The visual media does not stand apart from, but exists within a cultural framework that embodies embedded elements of sexism, racism, and socio-economic inequalities. Art is made within this context and helps to perpetuate or helps to bring attention to all of these issues.
Ctrl+Alt+Shift.’s mission is to creatively take responsibility to tell the real story of our times, give voice to the silent majority, and make a change by being “passionate, provocative, outspoken, and uncompromising”.
The site also features different competitions that give you a chance to submit your art, share your message, and create change. The latest was “VICE’s Gender, Poverty, and Power Photographic Competition.” Winners get to be mentored by notable artists of the specific medium and art scene the original submissions were called for. How awesome is that?
