Okay, this isn't a gadget per se, but a really good dollar store is better than any Phillips screwdriver. In fact, you can probably even pick up a good Phillips screwdriver there. Cruise around with your cart and toss in ultra-cheap school supplies, name-brand toiletries, and random tchotchkes like religious candles or toys. You'll save so much on what you need you won't feel bad for springing for those little girl hair barettes that caught your eye.
